Before cooking can begin, gather the following ingredients:
* 2 pounds ground venison
* ½ cup breadcrumbs
* ½ cup white onion, diced
* 2 large eggs
* ½ cup barbecue sauce
* ½ cup parmesan cheese, grated
* 1 ½ teaspoon minced garlic
* 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
* 2 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
* 1 teaspoon salt
Glaze
* ½ cup barbecue sauce for brushing meatloaf
Getting Started
Before preparing your meatloaf mixture, you will need to preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Next, you will want to prepare your baking dish or dishes. This meatloaf recipe is perfectly suited for making two meatloaves using bread pans, but is also perfect for using a 9 x 9 inch baking dish. Whichever dish you decide to use, you will want to prepare it by spraying its surface with a cooking spray or coating it with a thin layer of oil to prevent sticking.
Preparing the Meat Mixture
Using an appropriate size bowl for all of your ingredients, start by loosely breaking up your ground venison. Next you will want to add the breadcrumbs, chopped onion, and eggs to your meat, while mixing these ingredients thoroughly.
Now you will add the BBQ sauce and parmesan cheese. Again, you will need to completely mix these ingredients into your meat mixture. This recipe allows you to tweak the meatloaf to suit your individual tastes, by selecting your preferred type or brand of BBQ sauce. With the wide variety of sauces available on today’s market, there is no limit to the possibilities at one’s disposal.
Finally, you will add your remaining spices. Introduce the garlic, pepper, salt, and Worcestershire sauce into your mixture. Make sure that all of your ingredients are evenly mixed throughout the meat.
Time to Bake
Now add your meat mixture to a properly prepared baking dish of your choice. Begin by spreading the meat out evenly within this dish. You will now brush the remaining ½ cup of BBQ sauce over the top of this meat mixture. Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 45 minutes. Upon removing this dish from the oven, make a slice to its center, checking to ensure that it is cooked throughout. Let your meatloaf stand for 5 minutes, then slice and enjoy.
A Classic Dish Reimagined
While meatloaf, in its standard form, is already a highly sought after favorite of many, this timeless classic can be taken to the next level by tossing venison and barbeque into the mix. This dish is sure to be high on your priority list for a lengthy period of time to come.
